Book Club is always the first Thursday of the month unless there is some kind of conflict, in which case I will let you know! March - The Bonds That Make Us Free April - The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin May - No book club June - Mere Christianity July - Understood Betsy (Read it with your kids if you can and they are welcome to come to book club if they are old enough to participate in the discussion :)) If there are any books you'd like to suggest for book club please comment! If you are reading something good and want to share, please comment! Happy Reading!

Book Club Update

We decided to add "Persuasion" by Jane Austen to discuss in February (this is in addition to a Melanie Dickerson book if you'd like). In March we will discuss "The Bonds That Make Us Free". In April we will discuss "Understood Betsy" (This one is subject to change... I haven't talked to anyone about it quite yet, but have been wanting to read it and it is short.)  We will not meet in May. In June we will discuss "Mere Christianity".  Unless you hear otherwise, we will plan to meet at my place, 248 Rebecca Ave, the first Thursday of each month at 7pm, and have something warm to drink as long as it is cold - I have several herbal teas and some hot chocolate; if you have something you would like to bring feel free to. Or feel free to bring a snack to share if you'd like to.  Happy reading!

January and February Books

Thank you Conna for hosting a very fun Book Club get together where we talked about our favorite Christmas Picture books. So Fun! We plan to talk about Airman by Eion Colfer in January. In February we plan to talk about any of Melanie Dickerson books from her Fairy Tale Romance Series. (I have heard The Merchant's Daughter is a favorite, but that all of them are good, so pick one and we will see you in February!) If you would like to host a book club let me know! Otherwise we can always have them at my place. What else have you been reading that you love? Or don't love? Enjoy the Christmas Season and happy reading!!

November Book Club - Thursday, Nov 1st, 7pm at Maria's

Hi All, Happy Halloween :) Who is up for discussing books tomorrow? Maria is willing to host at her house. We will discuss "I am Malala" as well as "Esperanza Rising" if anyone has read these. Let me know if you have had a chance to read either of these and if so which one, or if you've read both. Then we will know where to take our discussion. If you don't know where Maria lives, text me 919-619-7873 and I will send you her address.  Please reply here and let us know if you plan to attend. I myself am a maybe for the moment (baby boy wants to nurse all the time and we haven't come to an agreement on how to work that out). Happy Reading :)

Anyone Read This One?

As I Have Loved You  by Kitty deRuyter -Bons Has anyone read this? (This may be the book Conna was referring to at our get together?) I'm wondering if we could read this along with our November pick, I Am Malala ? Or we can save it for later :) So many books, so little time!!

Fall Book Club Plans

Hi Everyone! Several us got together last night and talked about what we want to do going forward. We are planning to meet at my house in September to discuss "Girls on the Edge" and "Boys Adrift" (optional). In October we will meet at Michelle's house, November we will meet at Maria's house and discuss the book "I Am Malala" by Malala Yousafzai. I imagine we will choose to skip December and meet again at the beginning of January. I still want to try to include youth. What if we discuss the youth book every other month in addition to just getting together? I know a lot of the adults enjoy the youth books and it would be fun to have youth attend on those evenings if they would like to. I propose we discuss "Esperanza Rising" in October at Michelle's house. We didn't talk about this though, so a "yay", "nay" or different proposals are welcome! :)

EDIT - date change!! Book Club Get Together August 14th (not the 15th)

Hi Ladies! Let's meet and talk about what books we are reading and what we want to read this year on Tuesday, August 14th at 8pm at my house.  We will discuss Girls on the Edge in September. I think it will be Thursday, September 6th at 8pm, but we will have to see for sure as the time gets closer. For any youth that want to read something with us let's read "Esperanza Rising" by Pam Munoz Ryan. I just finished this one and it would be good probably for 9 and up? Maybe 8 and up even. I really liked it and am hoping to read it with my 9 year old.  Hoping to see some of you next week! For anyone that is following along with us but can't make the get togethers, just leave your comments about what you want to read on this post.
